Triploid Diploid (2025)

A work comprising sculptural objects, graphic drawings and illuminated text, set within the displays of Sadlier’s fishmongers, Limerick. The work included a number of delicate glass-blown works that have been rendered from intestinal microbes and the internal organs of fish and chicken. The work continued the artist’s ongoing research interests in adaptive relationships between human, environmental, and political ecologies; specifically how bodies play host to other bodies.

The work was orbited by a wide-range interrelated references, including the extinction of native fish species in Donegal, through to the speculative use of animal digestive tracts within medical procedures on a member of the artist’s close family, through to histories of Irish Republican incarceration and strategies of prison escape.

The glass sculptures were developed in collaboration with glass blower Andrea Spencer. The graphic drawings were developed in collaboration with designer Axel Feldmann.
